Based in Chicago, Illinois WMS is a subsidiary of WMS Industries, which became a wholly owned subsidiary of Scientific Games Corporation in 2013.
The company was founded in 1943 by Harry Williams who used his engineering knowledge to develop the first ‘tilt’ unit for pinball machines. The games produced by Williams Manufacturing Company were later produced by Midway Games that had machines in video arcades with pinball titles and video games. The first gambling machines they produced in the late 1980’s were video lottery terminals.
In the early 1990’s Williams Gaming manufactured video poker machines, then a few years later they entered the slot machine market. Williams Gaming split from Midway changing their name to WMS Gaming in 1999.
